Winter has arrived !! The islands are now under a winter storm front with high winds and heavy snow fall. Lake Huron is now in the process of freezing over as ice crystals are forming along the shore line. The islands are a winter wonderland waiting to be explored by snowmobiles and snow shoes. |

It is Copper Country Christmas Fri. Dec.4th in Bruce Mines. The stores will be open late with specials and treats for all to enjoy. Local Christmas trees will be for sale just waiting to be decorated. |

The McKay Island Range Light became unwatched in October 1955, and on October 25, 2009 it was modernized by the Canadian Coast Guard. It is now using solar power with LED bulbs. It has come along way, from kerosene in 1907, to battery, to electricity and now solar power. It will now only flash and be a beacon when it is dark outside. It will continue to guide the freighters into Trap Rock and the leisure craft into the Bruce Mines harbour. |
