Directions

Bruce Bay Cottages & Lighthouse is located on the north shore of Lake Huron 45 minutes drive east of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario or 2.5 hours drive west of Sudbury on the Trans Canada Highway 17.  We are also a very comfortable 8 hour drive from Toronto and many parts of southern Ontario.

Travel from the East

When travelling from Sudbury, Ontario, you will take the Trans Canada Highway 17 & travel west toward Sault Ste. Marie.

You will reach Blind River in 1.5 hours, then through the Village of Iron Bridge and later through the Town of Thessalon.

Thessalon is just 15 minutes away from Bruce Mines.

Just east of Bruce Mines is a stretch of highway called “Smith’s Flats”.  On your left (south) you will see our McKay Island lighthouse across the bay.  On your right (north) you will see our highway sign.

Entering Bruce Mines you will pass on your left (south) the Bavarian Inn, Shell Gas Bar, Global Automotive  and the Lighthouse Church – slow down and turn on your left signal light.

Turn left (south) onto Bruce Bay Road – follow the road and stay to your left – following the bay.  You will come up over a hill and you are on McCort Point where the red channel marker will greet you.

Travel over the steel bridge.  Bear left and check in at the manager’s cottage.

Travel from the West

When travelling from Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, travel over the international bridge – along Bay Street – past the Casino & Station Mall – follow the signs for Highway 17 East (Hwy 17B) and travel east.  You will pass on your right the Churchill Plaza, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Dairy Queen, Tim Horton’s Donuts, Superior Dodge Chrysler and the Husky Service Station before reaching the open road travelling east.

You will travel through Garden River First Nations Indian Reserve, Echo Bay, past the St. Joseph Island turnoff, and through Desbarats.

Desbarats is just 10 minutes west of Bruce Mines.  Just west of Bruce Mines you will pass the Green Thumb Greenhouses on your left (north).  After a few more curves, you will pass the Mariner’s Cove Antique Co-Op on your right – slow down and turn on your right signal light.  Turn right (south) onto Bruce Bay Road.

Follow Bruce Bay Road and stay to your left, following the bay.  You will come up over a hill and you are on McCort Point where the red channel marker will greet you.
